If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you might have guessed this one was coming. I might be a little late on the avocado toast wave, but this combination is well worth the wait. While I won’t tell you how to toast your toast, it’s the spread that really makes or breaks it for me.
It’s one of those ridiculously easy breakfast recipes to have in your back pocket. As is, avocado is hard not to like. But with just the right touch of this and that spice or seed, it unfolds into the teasing burst of flavor, eliciting that “Mmph” sounds that only happened every so often while noshing. Start your day on a golden, toasty, creamy note.
Avocado is well known nowadays as a powerhouse of health benefits, but just to remind you how much good you’re doing with this dream fruit, avocados provide essentials like healthy fat which nourishes every cell in our bodies. Particularly the brain, which is made of mostly fat itself and craves it for optimal function.
It also provides Vitamins C, E, K, B6 folate, fiber, magnesium and potassium, (read as boosted immunity, glowing skin, healthy heart, tip top reproductive system, improved digestion and detoxification, nerve function, strong bones and kidneys). Phew!
The chives not only pop within the creamy smothering of avocado. They also contain Choline, a chemical which actually helps your body absorb the fat and assimilate it within your system; ensuring you get the most from your toast.
Chives also have strong links in several studies to fighting cancers, aiding sleep and over-all nerve function, including learning and memory. So far, looks like this breakfast is gonna make you super smart. And we’re not even done!
A cousin of parsley, caraway seeds are one of the more flamboyantly aromatic seeds. Caraway seeds are what gives rye bread its peppery, enveloping warmth. Apart from an incident around age 7 when I was forced to eat a piece of rye toast and it made me cry, I have always loved rye bread.
Now I can’t get enough of the caraway flavor. Unfortunately, as a glutinous grain, rye bread itself it off the menu for those of us with digestive issues, but sprinkling caraway over this grain-free bread will absolutely fool you. This is my favorite grain-free bread right now, which I used.
Obviously feel free to use whatever bread, be it grain-free, gluten-free or glutinous depending on what your body processes well. Candida Dieters should stay away from gluten.
Caraway boasts high amounts of fiber, magnesium and iron, adding a delicious little touch of even better digestion. It also contains an arsenal of antioxidants.
One final raw element which I like to include is a staple for anyone looking to boost immunity and combat pathogenic yeast overgrowth: garlic.
Another member of the allium family, like chives, garlic shows up again and again as an ingredient with the power to reduce cancer risks, lower blood pressure and eradicate bacteria and viruses causing the common cold and other illnesses. It’s also one of the most powerful anti-fungals in nature and a Candida Dieter’s must have.
I particularly love to have this toast with this turmeric ginger tea from Rishi. My mom sent it to me for my birthday and she had no idea what a home run she was hitting. She knows now.
The pungent kick of the alliums in the buttery avocado, with the peppery caraway is rounded out and enriched with this golden, earthy, licorice sweet tea. Get this combo together. Trust me.
