I’m feeling super festive on this All Hallows Eve. It’s actually cloudy and chilly, and I’ve got a jack-o-lantern waiting to be lit up and a plate of fresh pumpkin cookies at home. I saw a bunch of people dressed up on my walk to the train today, including a 5 year old dressed as a doctor, which was freaking adorable.
I love holidays because I can visually see humanity sort of swinging together for a brief moment. It’s a time for us to look at each other, even when we’re dressed absurdly, and say, “I get it.” That affinity gets me. Love it.
Over the last month we’ve been celebrating the season in little ways like decorating with small gourds and spindally twigs we found on our hike in the San Bernardino Mountains. The air up there is chilly, and there were some leaves which changed color. It wasn’t anywhere near the magnitude of the fall colors I’m used to. But there are pines and pine cones in the mountains, which I love. Fall is still good here, it’s just different.
We went to a fall festival at the Grove. It was warm out, but the festive atmosphere and decorations made it special. We watched the pie eating contest. A twelves year old girl won against a whole slew of grown men. We girls love our treats. No Joke.
Nick got a scoop of pumpkin ice cream, which I resisted taking a bite of, but enjoyed just for the sake of itself and snapped a picture.
Beautiful, isn’t it?
Have you done anything special to celebrate this toastiest of seasons?
I’m enjoying this season and I hope you are too. Have a safe and happy Halloween!
