5 spice powder is a blend of some of my favorite spices. In fact it’s kind of like someone had me in mind when they decided that these spices would be sealed together as their very own entity (And I somehow deny that I can be self-absorbed).
Used a lot in Chinese and Indian food, it consists of cinnamon, cloves, fennel seed, star anise and Szechuan peppercorns. It’s a robust and surprising blend of pungent and pleasant.
Blended into a similarly savory and sweet cornbread with fresh basil tucked in, this a gluten-free snack that can be whatever you want it to be, depending on how you top it. [Read more…]
